Gemini

Gemini Season: May 21st - June 20th

An air sign that feels like it should be a fire sign.

Previously, I would get anxious when asked the question “What is your star sign?”, when presenting “Gemini” as the answer was often met with a facial expression akin to both wariness and pity. These days, I love celebrating Gemini season and my place within it.

The Gemini constellation comprises of the twins, Pollux and Castor, as shown in Greek mythology. The twins having differing paternal origins resulted in one being born a mortal son of a King and the other of immortality after Zeus heirs yet another child through questionable actions. It is stated that Pollux requested to share his Zeus given immortality with his dying brother Castor and they were transformed into the zodiac constellation. There are always variations of these classical tales, but beauty can be found in the sacrifice and connection presented by this particular story. It is a reminder of the fragility of mortal life and how important it is to take chances on yourself.

Represented by the motif of twins, we are often met with the initial assumption that we are two faced or prone to erratic behaviours and mood swings. Yet I see Gemini’s as being multi-faceted deep thinkers who perhaps have an edge of impulsivity. But having big feelings and being sensitive to those around them should not be seen as a weakness.

Gemini’s have a way of getting along well with others. You may not think so because you hear how they talk about the people who have wronged them and ultimately been cut out of their lives but that doesn’t mean they aren’t able to show face when required and can often become pathways between new friendships outside of themselves.

If you become close with a Gemini, you will find a loyalty like no other. Let them guide you on how to interact with them, some days may be fast paced and full of energy, other days are reserved for recharging their social batteries and best enjoyed with naps, co-existing low effort activities, and ALWAYS bring a Gemini a snack! (though I might be biased on this, since I am a great lover of a little treat).

A Gemini may be fiercely independent, but they still require close connections and reassurance from those around them. They will return this in kind, not afraid to verbalise the love they have for their friends. We are a weird combination of open book and complete mystery, learn from a Gemini and let a little chaos into your life this season.

Stop holding on to all the thoughts you keep in that marvellous little head of yours, let go and clear some room for other things. Take a moment, remember that the twin reflected in the mirror is part of you and share kind words with them. This is a season for endings and continuations alike.

Breathe, let the air move around and nourish you this Gemini season.
