Aries

Aries Season: March 21st - April 19th

Aries is a cardinal fire sign and the first constellation of the zodiac. Represented by the ram, Aries are headstrong and determined. They are competitive in nature, hardworking and fiercely passionate.

In Greek Mythology, Aries is the flying golden ram sent by Nephele to rescue her children Phrixus and Helle from their stepmother Ino, and carry them to safety in Colchis. Nephele instructed the children not to look down as the ram flew them to safety, however Helle did, and she fell into the sea which was later named Hellespont in her memory. Upon arriving at Colchis, Phrixus gifted the rams golden fleece to the king Aeetes to thank him for his warm welcome and hospitality, where it was placed in a garden to be guarded day and night by a sleepless dragon.

The golden fleece was later retrieved by Jason and the Argonauts. Jason, the would-be king of Iolcus was usurped of his throne by his half uncle Pelias whom sent Jason on an impossible quest to fetch the golden fleece. Jason and the Argonauts faced many perils including giants and harpies on their journey, overcoming them all with the help of others. Once they reach Colchis, the king Aeetus promised them the golden fleece if they could complete three impossible tasks in a single day. With the help of Aeetus' daughter Medea, Jason successfully completed the tasks and retrieved the golden fleece.

This is of course a grossly simplified version of a far greater story, but even so it shows us why Aries are associated with independence, ferocity, and passion. Aries people are capable of almost anything when motivated, however their determination can be blinding and cause them to become self-serving. An Aries will stand up for what they believe in with a fiery passion often mistaken for aggression. So long as they remain level headed and do not allow themselves to carried away by passion, an Aries can accomplish anything!
